What I evaluate.

Each evaluation starts with your question. How many visits it takes depends on the question, and I tell you the plan and each visit's length before you book.

ADHD evaluation

For adults who wonder whether trouble with focus, organization or follow-through fits ADHD, or something else. The evaluation includes a clinical interview, your history from childhood on, rating scales, and testing of attention and memory. It is not therapy, and I do not prescribe medication.

  • Interview and history

  • Rating scales

  • Attention and memory testing

  • Written report and feedback

Autism evaluation

For adults who have long felt different in how they connect, communicate or take in the world. The evaluation includes a detailed interview about your childhood and daily life, structured tasks in session, and, if you wish, a conversation with someone who knew you as a child. It is not therapy.

  • Developmental interview

  • Structured tasks in session

  • Input from someone who knew you, if you wish

  • Written report and feedback

Learning and cognitive evaluation

For adults who want to know how they learn, read, remember and solve problems, often for school, a licensing exam or work. Testing covers reasoning, memory, processing speed and academic skills. An evaluation describes how you work; it does not promise a particular result.

  • Reasoning and memory

  • Processing speed

  • Reading, writing and math skills

  • Written report and feedback

A second look

For adults who carry a diagnosis they are unsure about, or several that do not seem to fit together. I review earlier records and test what is needed to look again. The findings may agree with what you were told, differ from it or leave questions open, and I say which.

  • Review of earlier records

  • Testing where it is needed

  • Written report and feedback

Evaluation and therapy

An evaluation is not therapy.

They answer different questions and run on different schedules. Some people want one, some the other, some both.

Therapy

  • Works toward a goal: what can change?

  • Ongoing sessions, at a pace you set

  • Skills and support in the room

  • Conversation and practice

  • One therapist, week to week

An evaluation

  • Answers a question: what is going on?

  • Visits with a clear end

  • A written report you keep

  • Interviews, records and testing

  • Next steps put in writing
